I'm a Recovering WANT Addict

Image
I'm a Recovering WANT Addict My pup Stout a few years ago I overheard someone say "I WANT that puppy!" when looking through photographs of puppies. The context was playful, because they do have animals of their own already, but expressed the words so as to emphasize the puppies cuteness and appreciation of them. This opened up an interesting point within me when I heard the words "I WANT that puppy!", the sound in which it was said together with the facial expressions. It took me back to my childhood as well as looking at myself, relationships and life in the present. I looked at how, as children - we were so quick to say "I WANT" due to not having any education / understanding of responsibilities and obligations tied to money and practicality. Interestingly enough, this is a hole we may be still fall into that we dig for ourselves to this day… Let me share and show what I mean with the above. The moment the individual spoke the...

Remaining Consistent through the Ups and Downs

Image
Remaining consistent through the Ups and Downs Sometimes I've faced days where my general mood / experience goes through ups and downs. Other times my body goes through pains / discomforts (such as for example during periods / body not agreeing with food leading to nausea and diarrhoea / the flu starting to rear its head) leading to a physical experience of ups and downs during a day. Yes, we all go through ‘general’ ups and downs when it comes to your inner experience and physical experience during a day – but not to the extent where it influences / affects your daily responsibilities / priorities. Sometimes, it does occur that your inner / physical experiences affects your daily responsibilities and priorities; but most are in such a state of survival and dependency on work and money: there is no ‘space and time’ to ‘indulge’ in the inner and physical experience and so push through ‘em no matter what. Only giving yourself the time and space ‘allowed’ over weekends or...

Time cycles, Emotion and Me

Image
Time cycles, Emotion and Me Ever been in an experience where you ‘wake up’ inside yourself realising you have been caught up in a negative spin in your thoughts and emotions, accepting and allowing the worry and stress of everything going wrong inside yourself and your life getting too much to handle…but more specifically realising you have forgotten about so many ‘good’ things still existing about you, your life. This leading to a point where you ask yourself: where have I been? What have I done to myself? Why have I allowed this for so long? Why have I missed so much about me and my life that’s actually quite good / okay? But then…you TRY and focus on the ‘good’ / ‘positive’ while still processing the worry / stress of your mind and everyday life; not only that: as you continue ‘walking through life’ with each day bringing NEW and MORE challenges to deal with…you soon enough start realising that ‘remembering the good / okay’ becomes more and more difficult. Eventually,...

The Value I give Relationships and Relationships gift to Me

Image
The Value I give Relationships and Relationships gift to Me   I have walked a long path with these two ladies and many of you may relate to having people in your life for many years as well. You very seldom hear of people walking a path together in this one life that stretches over many years, also here looking at ‘friendships’ – where a connection / relationship between you has been kept ‘alive’ so to speak. This is odd though in terms of such an occurrence being ‘rare’…how seldom we can keep the various people and relationships we’re exposed to ‘alive’. We never know what changes we may face in our individual lives – moving away, conflicts / fighting, illness, death etc. – but a common thing I have found is that when change comes, in all different shapes and sizes within a relationship, we very easily accept and allow this change to compromise the relationship in some way or another and very easily ‘break ties’ so to speak. One thing I’d like to share that I’ve b...

Giving Up in a Moment vs. Standing through the Moment

Image
Giving Up in a Moment vs. Standing through the Moment Sometimes a point inside yourself in relation to something / someone seems so BIG, the problem so intertwined with many memories / emotions that you don’t know how to deal with it, what to do about it or who you are in relation to it. I have faced this many times in my life in relation to so many different things – interestingly enough, one thing I learnt was the following: the times I did decide to give up – which was usually done by either walking away from someone / a person and/or just not completing a project / task…that I’d in the future come to face the EXACT SAME problem in a different, yet similar enough way for me to recognise it and go “oh shit, here it is again!” So, when I started walking process – understanding who I am in relation to giving up together with all the past regrets of walking away / giving up: I changed myself to – whenever I am in a situation or experience with something / someone wh...

The Moment, the Day - then the Future

Image
The Moment, the Day - then the Future Looking to the future...it's unpredictable, it's unknown and so therefore untrustworthy.  We so often place trust in the future when we in our minds imagine a future we'd like / desire and in this misplace two things: creation and trust. Meaning: if you focus too much on an ideal future in your mind (whether related to career, money, relationships, life in general etc.) - many tend to think / imagine that future MORE than actually practically planning or developing ways to bring it into creation by putting in the daily effort to make that future a reality. Then you miss moments, miss days and so miss yourself in your ability to trust you and what you do day in and out to bring that future you see into creation.  With Desteni, we focus on a self and a world within the principle of what's best for all. Actively through blogging, vlogging and personal processes walk day in and out to reach our utmost pot...

A Moment of Focus

Image
A Moment of Focus Today I looked at the word FOCUS, reminding me of this photo. Stout, intently focusing himself on something is not only seen in his eyes, but his total presence coming through in the photo. Focus on yourself, priorities and responsibilities is something you can slowly lose as your focus shifts into thoughts and emotions in the Mind...entertaining fears in the Mind over time can do this especially well. I've realised one cannot be as focused and so disciplined to one's utmost potential, while having an effective balance between play and work...as long as one is in a constant emotional state that starts taking over and taking precedence over self and ones everyday life experience. So, when you start noticing things slacking or being postponed in your life...get that focus and balance back by taking responsibility for what's going on inside yourself before it takes over you and your life. I have personally walked through such a pro...

Preparing Fruit Salad Moment

Image
Preparing Fruit Salad Moment   I was peeling papaya this afternoon for a fruit salad lunch . While peeling I noticed I was rushing and cutting quite a bit of the edible parts with the peels. I breathed and slowed down, paying more attention to each peel. Even slowing down was a process as I experienced a resistance to slowing down cause I was in an overall rushed state. This moment peeling the papaya supported me with the reminder of slowing myself down with breath, being more comfortable in my body and paying attention to detail. What I have found contributes to this ‘rushed state’ is when I have for some time been THINKING about one thing or many other things at the same time, where I...
